Pensacola Park is a historic neighborhood in Lexington, Kentucky, bounded by Suburban Court on the north, Goodrich Avenue on the south, Nicholasville Road on the east, and the Norfolk Southern Railway on the west. It was one of the first suburbs of Lexington, with Rosemont Garden first platted in 1919. Suburban Court and Penmoken Park followed in 1922 and 1923. By 1931, Goodrich Ave and Pensacola Park (which ultimately became Wabash Drive and Lackawanna Drive) were also added.
The neighborhood was developed as a suburb for working middle-class Lexingtonians, including professors at the University of Kentucky, members of the clergy, military personnel, engineers, and small business owners. A century later, Pensacola Park remains a working class neighborhood with an array of architecturally-intact homes that are representative of the time period when they were built. The preservation of these homes and neighborhood is integral to the story and development of Lexington from the 1920s to the 1940s.
